County 4-H members place tops at state show
Indiana County 4-H forestry members again won top spots in a state competition and a chance to represent Pennsylvania at a national contest. The top four individual winners in the recent state forestry contest were Tom Brady, Jesse Isenberg, Caleb Brady and Ethan Brady. The Brady family is from Marion Center Handy Helpers and Isenberg is a member of the Gordon Club.
The top three will represent Pennsylvania at the 2013 National 4-H Forestry Invitational this month at Jackson’s Mill 4-H Conference Center in Weston, W.Va.
Participants in both the state and national competitions must demonstrate their skills in tree measurement, tree identification, forest health (insect and disease identification), compass use, topographical map reading and applied forestry principles.
This year’s Forestry Field Day received sponsorship from the Pennsylvania Sustainable Forestry Initiative and the Pennsylvania Forest Products Association.
Leader Debbie Beisel served as the team coach and will accompany the team to the national event.
Several other people also attended the educational portion of this event, which included a wildlife program. They included Elizabeth Bruner, Abigail Bruner, John Clark Bruner, leader Connie Bruner and Kathy Adams.
