County's covered bridges are picture perfect

Indiana County’s covered bridges are among the most photographed structures in the county.

Now there’s a new reason to grab a camera and take a drive along Five Points Road, Washington Township. The 103-year-old Harmon Covered Bridge over Plum Creek is decorated for the holiday season with pale blue lights.

“I wanted to create another tourist attraction for the county,” said Gregg VanHorn, who powers the subdued light display with a portable generator from about 5 to 9 p.m. each evening.

VanHorn, president of both the Indiana County Tourist Bureau and the Indiana County Christmas Tree Growers Association, decorated the bridge in cooperation with Indiana County Parks & Trails, which owns the span.

VanHorn said he may yet add a Christmas tree to the bridge’s decorations.
