Derry woman killed in car-tow truck accident

DERRY TOWNSHIP — A Derry woman was killed in a traffic accident Wednesday afternoon on Route 217.

According to authorities, Angela O’Barto, 39, was traveling north when she lost control of her car on a curve around 12:56 p.m. State police in Greensburg said her car crossed the centerline and collided with a southbound tow truck driven by James Drennen, of Homer City.

O’Barto was not wearing a seat belt and was partially thrown from her vehicle, according to the Westmoreland County Coroner’s Office.

Deputy Coroner Joshua Zappone pronounced O’Barto dead at the scene. He listed the cause of death as multiple blunt force trauma.

Drennen, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured, police said.
