Etsy shop owner hosting event
Embrace the fashionable past Friday, Feb. 28, at the second annual Bruised Black Vintage Open House.
The event, hosted by Beckie-Ann Galentine, who owns Bruised Black Vintage, will be hosted this year at Yummy for Every Tummy Bakery on Philadelphia Street in Indiana. It will run from 4 to 9 p.m.
“The event is a showcase of the best vintage clothing items I’ve found over the past year,” Galentine said. “Online shopping can be difficult, even when measurements are provided. This is my chance to let my local customers try stuff on in person because my business is currently online only.”
Galentine’s business is an Etsy shop at www.bruisedblackvintage.com.
According to the event’s Facebook page, live models will assist guests in fitting and choosing one-of-a-kind vintage pieces. In addition, the event will feature unique artwork and jewelry created by local artists.
“Vintage clothing is a huge passion of mine, it’s not about making money,” said Galentine. “I think it is really important to appreciate what’s been left behind by past generations. If we don’t preserve it, or give it new life, it will end up in a landfill and forgotten.”
More than 300 items, ranging in styles from the Roaring 20s to the “ultra-grunge” ’90s will be available at the event.
“Each item is like a piece of art — from the hand-stitched details in the ’20s and ’30s to the bold floral graphics of the ’70s. In many cases there is only one surviving garment of a certain style.”
Yummy for Every Tummy will also feature its vegan and gluten-free desserts.
Galentine’s shop first opened in 2010 and, according to its Facebook page, has since then been reviving vintage pieces inspired by rock and roll and dark glamour.
