Work is progressing on renovations to the emergency department at Indiana Regional Medical Center.

The hospital is undergoing an expansion and renovation project that will modernize the services now offered by IRMC with new operating room suites, a new intensive care unit, a post-anesthesia care unit, a post-acute care unit, an endoscopy unit and a new linear accelerator.

Linear accelerators are used for generating X-rays and in radiation therapy. In all, the project will renovate about 45,000 square feet of the current facility and add approximately 40,000 square feet of space.

Construction work will be going on above the Bork Emergency Center into next year.  (Tom Peel/Gazette photo)
