Farmers market set to start new season

With new vendors, an updated Facebook page and a brand new website, the Indiana Farmers Market is ready to kick off a new season June 1.

“It’s such a treat that we have this in Indiana,” said Chloe Drew, a volunteer with the Center for Community Growth who is working with the farmers market to develop an online presence.

“It’s a lot more (than just produce), and we’re hoping that with the artists and musicians it can be even bigger.”

The market, held at Eighth and Church streets, runs from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays and from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays.

There are, of course, produce vendors from area farms, as well as baked goods and local meat. New this year are Homemade Ice Cream Express, Plum Creek Soaps and Stokehole Pottery.

And the Center for Community Growth will be bringing different artists to their booth each Saturday as a way to highlight area artisans and possibly bring new vendors next year.

Jim Resh, who serves as the market’s secretary, said there are 12 vendors signed up to start the market season, and space is available for more, though Wednesday will fill up quickly, he said.

They are also working to line up musicians to play on Saturdays.

And most of the vendors are profiled on the market’s website, which will be updated each week to reflect what produce or items will be available at the next market.

“I would tell people to look there, because we’re going to keep it updated,” Resh said. “(Come out) and just support the market.”
