Festival in Brush Valley begins Friday

BRUSH VALLEY — The air is getting a little cooler, and the fair season is coming to a close. But Indiana County residents have a chance to keep summer alive just a bit longer at Friday and Saturday’s Brush Valley Days celebration.

While the two-day event has been scaled back from its normal three-day run, attendees will be treated to the vendors, tractor rides and fireworks they have come to love.

“We did have to scale it back some,” said Cindy Kurdziel, chairwoman of the event committee. “We usually were doing Saturday and Sunday, but now we’re doing Saturday only.”

“It was difficult to get sponsors this year,” Kurdziel explained. “We’re well aware of the bad economy lately, so we understand where it’s coming from.”

Unfortunate casualties of the cutback were the auction and the pet parade; however, attendees can still take advantage of a full schedule of events.

Returning as always is the produce judging and square dancing at the fire hall on Friday. Saturday sees vendors, the antique tractor ride and the kiddie tractor pull as well as musical entertainment in the park.

The event closes as always with a fireworks show.

All-day events include antique tractors and machinery featuring the Brush Valley Antique Iron & Power Club and chicken served by the Brush Valley fire department.

“One thing we are offering this year that we kind of tried last year but word never got out,” Kurdziel said, “we are planning a flea market at the park this year. If anyone wants to set up a day flea market, they are welcome to.”

The cost for a flea market space is $5.

Kurdziel said she has been planning the event for four years now.

“I hope to have a good turnout,” she said. “I hope the weather stays well for it.”

Brush Valley Days events will take place at the fire hall and Township Park along Route 56. For more information, contact Kurdziel at (724) 479-3434 or go to
