Gala to offer entertainment, auction
The University Museum at Indiana University of Pennsylvania will host a benefit gala, “Masks, Music, A Night in Venice,” from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday in Sutton Hall.
The gala recreates Carnevale in contemporary Venice, Italy, with a night of fine art, music, dinner and dancing. In the spirit of Carnevale, guests are invited to wear festive masks — their own or those provided at the gala. The evening begins with a reception in the museum and includes live entertainment, an auction and dinner and dancing in the Blue Room. Reservations are required.
Among the items being auctioned in support of the museum are vintage antiques; paintings, sculptures and original prints; one-of-a kind designer jewelry and unique accessories; season tickets for the Lively Arts Totally Everything package; season tickets to IUP basketball and football games; signed IUP sports memorabilia; gift certificates for dining and services at area establishments; a two-night stay at the Farnsworth House Bed & Breakfast; and dinner for six with President Michael and Mrs. Becky Driscoll.
The auction is open only to guests at the gala. A complete list of the items for auction and their donors will be available on the museum website at http://www.iup.edu/museum/
The event also showcases the University Museum exhibition “Layers: Places in Peril” produced by artist Judith Waller and earth scientist Dr. James Brey. Waller and Brey have collaborated to illustrate and explain the environmental threats confronting some of the world’s most beautiful cities and natural landscapes, including the city of Venice. The exhibition will run through Nov. 9 in the museum, which is located on the first floor of Sutton Hall.
All University Museum exhibitions and lecture programs are free to the public. Proceeds from the gala and auction help to support the museum’s exhibitions, education programs, and conservation of art and cultural objects in the museum’s care.
Gala reservations are $125 per person. To make reservations, contact Leslie Kluchurosky at (724)357-2397. An invitation and reply form for reservations can be downloaded from the University Museum website: http://www.iup.edu/museum/.
