'Healthy Steps' program to be held
Aging Services Inc. has announced that “Healthy Steps in Motion,” offered in the spring of this year, is again being offered free for eight weeks at the Indiana Social Center. It will be offered two days a week (Monday and Wednesday) starting Aug. 5 and running through Sept. 30, with the exception of Labor Day on Sept. 2.
The program, developed by the Pennsylvania Department of Aging in partnership with the University of California, Berkeley, was designed for adults age 50 years of age and older with different fitness levels — beginner, intermediate or advanced. This program includes exercise routines and education about the benefits of exercise, how to set goals, keep track of your progress and keep your body in motion. Fitness instructor Carole Zicha will lead the program.
You must commit to the full eight weeks of sessions to obtain the best results. You must be willing to commit to the majority of classes. This program is an evidence-based program, which relies on attendance for results. Space is limited and you can’t participate in the program if you do not register. Anyone 50 years of age or older, those with limited mobility, or those just wanting to get stronger and healthier, are eligible to attend. Each person exercises at their own pace.
Don’t wait to take advantage of this opportunity to improve your strength, mobility, flexibility and outlook on life, while decreasing your risk for falls and improving your overall health. Take your first “step” and call Aging Services Inc. at (724) 349-4500 or (800) 442-8016.
