The Indiana County NAACP will celebrate Juneteenth 2014 with a community family-style cookout at Mack Park’s pavilion on June 18 from 5 to 8 p.m.
The event will feature music, games, free food and door prizes. Admission is free, and the pool will be available at a reduced rate of $2 for children 10 and younger, $4 for children 11 to 17, and $6 for adults 18 and older. Please indicate Juneteenth on the waiver when you sign in, and be sure to bring your swimsuit and identification.
Juneteenth, known as Freedom Day and Emancipation Day, is a holiday observed in many states to celebrate the anniversary of the abolition of slavery in Texas, the last state to abolish slavery, on June 19, 1865.
