Keystone theater presents 'Sweeney Todd'
Keystone Repertory Theater, a summer theater in residence at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, will present “Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street.” This dark, award-winning musical runs July 31 through Aug. 2 at 8 p.m. and Aug. 3 at 2 p.m.
Performances will be held in the Indiana Theater, 637 Philadelphia St., in downtown Indiana.
This musical centers around the wrongfully imprisoned Sweeney Todd. A barber by trade, he returns to London ready to seek revenge on those who took away everything he loved, including his daughter Joanna.
With an epic score and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and a haunting book by Hugh Wheeler, this wildly popular story takes the audience on a tour of the underbelly of London’s back streets. Due to its violent content, it is not recommended for younger children.
The production is directed by KRT artistic director Nick Hrutkay, a 2011 IUP grad. The cast includes nine IUP students and alumni.
Tickets are available now at IUPTickets.com and at the Hadley Union Building box office located in the Hadley Union Building on the IUP campus. Tickets may also be purchased by calling (724) 357-1313. Additional information is available on the Web, Facebook, or by calling the Lively Arts at (724) 357-2787 (ARTS).
In addition to Hrutkay, KRT management includes longtime Indiana resident Cheryl Randal serving as managing director. It is produced by IUP’s Department of Theater and Dance and funded, in part, by the Student Cooperative Association along with sponsors and private donations.
