In a sure sign that spring is fast-approaching, The Meadows frozen custard store on Oakland Avenue in White Township opened Friday after being closed for the winter season.

Enjoying treats on opening day, when temperatures were in the mid-40s, were, from left, Fred Hayes, of Homer City, with his 2-year-old Maltese, Zoey; and Ellie, 10, and Amaris Marshall, 12. They are the daughters of David and Satin Marshall, of Penn Run. (Tom Peel/Gazette photo)
