ERNEST — The Historic First Baptist Church of Glen Campbell will celebrate the third Sunday in Advent this Sunday with a service of sacred worship with Organ Preludes starting at 10 a.m. and formal worship opening with the processional hymn at 10:15 a.m.

This service is planned to be a rich combination of sacred lessons from the lectionary and music written to accentuate the importance of the Advent season. Adjunct organist Benjamin Bugaile, an Indiana University of Pennsylvania music major and student of Dr. Christine Clewell, IUP Organ Master, will play the church’s pipe organ.

Soprano Leanna McGiboney, also an IUP music-voice student, will sing solos including “In the Bleak Midwinter,” by Gustav Holst.

Bugaile will play a varied collection of music including “Prelude,” by Louis Vierne and “In Dir ist Freude,” by J.S. Bach.

The congregation’s longtime senior pastor, the Rev. Dr. Allan N. Campbell, will preach from all the texts of the day and especially from Isaiah 35:1-10 with the message titled “A Vision of Joy!”

A special offering will be received to support the community Love Basket project, which helps feed needy families and individuals during the Christmas season in the Glen Campbell region. All three churches in Glen Campbell work in harmony on the Love Basket project.

The church reminds everyone of the Advent organ concert series and short prayer and liturgical service to be held again Thursday at 12:10 p.m. Clewell, professor of organ at IUP and an adjunct organist at the church, will be the organist; and after the concert all are invited to attend a free homemade soup lunch, which will include soup, drinks, bread and butter and dessert. No advance reservations are needed to attend.

At the Thursday Advent concert with lunch, Campbell will read one lesson with a short liturgy with prayers and the congregational singing of two hymns. He will be assisted by Dr. Joseph C. Clark, a church deacon.
