'Take Back the Night' event to be held at IUP
As part of April’s designation as National Sexual Abuse Awareness Month, and to show support for victims of sexual assault and gender violence, the Indiana County District Attorney’s office, along with the Haven Project, the Alice Paul House, Indiana University of Pennsylvania and the Indiana community will participate in “Take Back the Night” starting at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the middle of the Delaney Courtyard on the IUP campus. Participants should arrive by 7:45 p.m.
These marches began in 1976 in Brussels, and have become a prominent rallying event against sexual assault and violence internationally.
The march Wednesday evening in Indiana will be followed by a Speak-Out in the PNC Room at the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex. Participating will be local elected officials, representatives from IUP Haven, the Alice Paul House, and victims and survivors of crime.
David Hickton, the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Pennsylvania, will address the crowd and participate in the walk. The public is invited to attend.
