Friends of the Parks will offer tours of the Tunnelview Historic Site on Aug. 2 from 2 to 4 p.m.

The site is adjacent to Conemaugh Dam in southwestern Indiana County. During a guided walk, participants will learn about the significant canal and railroad history associated with the site.

Charles Dickens and Harriet Beecher Stowe once passed through the area on canal boats. In later years, the railroad transformed the site. Impressive stone bridges still tower over the Conemaugh River and nearby Bow Ridge.

The Tunnelview Historic Site is operated by Indiana County Parks and Trails. In addition to the site’s historic features, access for kayaking and river fishing is provided. The West Penn Trail, operated by the Conemaugh Valley Conservancy, also passes through the site.

For more information and directions to Tunnelview Historic Site, visit or call Indiana County Parks and Trails at (724) 463-8636.
