Upcoming community events announced

KARAOKE: A Valentine’s karaoke event with “Gypsy” is planned for 9 p.m. Saturday at the Polish National Alliance, 501 Indiana Ave., Avonmore. There will be raffles, Jell-O and pudding shots, and light refreshments. The cost is $2 at the door, and proceeds benefit the 2014 Avonmore Harvest Jubilee.


DINNER: A spaghetti dinner to benefit the Avonmore Public Library is planned from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Civic Center, 400 Railroad Ave., Avonmore. The cost for dinner, salad and dessert is $7 for adults and $4 for kids 6 to 12. Children in kindergarten and younger eat for free. Takeouts will be available. JAM SESSIONS: The Indiana Social Center, 1001 Oak St., Indiana, has open jam sessions scheduled for Feb. 21 and 28 from 10 a.m. to noon. If you play an instrument or like to sing, or if you are more of a listener, the center would love to have you join. There is no admission charge and sessions are open to the public. If you’d like to stay and have lunch, you must make your lunch reservation by calling (724) 465-2697.


HYMN SING: A hymn sing with Kay Young will be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 27 at The Mahoning Hills Social Center, Route 119 North, beside Longview Elementary School, near Punxsutawney. Call (724) 286-3099 for more information.


JAM SESSIONS: Open acoustic jam sessions are being held at the Chestnut Hills Social Center, 26 Heybert Drive, Old Route 22, Blairsville, from 10 a.m. to noon on the first and third Mondays of the month except for holidays. To stay for lunch after the jam session, call (724) 459-5251 to make reservations. If the weather is bad, call ahead to be sure the session is still being held.


DINNER: The Penn Run Church of the Brethren is hosting a Valentine’s Day dinner Saturday at the Penn Run Christian Outreach Center, 75 Grace Church Road, Penn Run. Appetizers will be served at 5:30 p.m. and dinner will be served at 6 p.m.

The menu includes chicken, roast beef, baked potato, corn, green beans, tossed salad and assorted desserts.

The cost is $15 per person. Reservations should be made by Sunday, with payment sent to Penn Run Church of the Brethren, 2317 Route 553, Penn Run, PA 15765 to hold reservation, or call (724) 463-0420.

Gino Bartoletti is the speaker and will be doing chalk drawings.


DINNER: A lasagna dinner will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Feb. 15 at the Purchase Line United Methodist Church, in the activity building. The cost is a donation.

The dinner is sponsored by the PLUM Youth Group, and proceeds benefit the group.
