Upcoming community events announced
MEETING: Elks Ladies Auxiliary 931 Indiana will hold their monthly meeting Thursday in the Elks Lodge. It will be the perfect attendance meeting. Plan to attend.
DANCE: An old time round, hoedown square and polka dance will be held at the Towne Hall, Route 422, Elderton, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. All ages are welcome. Music will be by the Ken Burkett Band.
GOWN SALE: A prom gown sale will be held from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Whitesburg United Methodist Church, Route 422, Kittanning.
Prom gowns and jewelry will be available. Prom gowns are $50 each. Some still have tags showing prices of $300. The event is a fundraiser for a new ministry, The Celebration of Life, www.tcolife.org. Whitesburg UMC has private dressing rooms and will be staffed with TCOL volunteers. Light refreshments will be offered to benefit the church and TCOL ministries. New and gently used prom gowns and accessories may be dropped off at the church on either day of the sale. For more information, call (412) 513-6438.
PANCAKE DINNER: The annual Shrove Tuesday pancake and sausage dinner will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Hope Lutheran Church, 35 Ridge Ave., Homer City.
Tickets are $5 for adults, $2.50 for children ages 6 to 12 and free for ages 5 and younger. All proceeds go to ELCA Men in Mission. Dine in or carry out. For tickets, call the church office at (724) 479-9431.
JAM SESSIONS: The Indiana Social Center, 1001 Oak St., Indiana, has an open jam session scheduled for Feb. 28 from 10 a.m. to noon. If you play an instrument or like to sing, or if you are more of a listener, the center would love to have you join. There is no admission charge and sessions are open to the public. If you’d like to stay and have lunch, you must make your lunch reservation by calling (724) 465-2697.
HYMN SING: A hymn sing with Kay Young will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at The Mahoning Hills Social Center, Route 119 North, beside Longview Elementary School, near Punxsutawney. Call (724) 286-3099 for more information.
JAM SESSIONS: Open acoustic jam sessions are being held at the Chestnut Hills Social Center, 26 Heybert Drive, Old Route 22, Blairsville, from 10 a.m. to noon on the first and third Mondays of the month except for holidays. To stay for lunch after the jam session, call (724) 459-5251 to make reservations. If the weather is bad, call ahead to be sure the session is still being held.
BINGO: The Elderton Volunteer Fire Department sponsors bingo every Thursday. Early bird starts at 6:45 p.m. with the regular game at 7 p.m.
