Water main to be replaced

on August 21, 2013 10:50 AM

Pennsylvania American Water announced plans Tuesday to replace more than a mile of aging water main in its Indiana service areas.

The cost of the system improvements will be approximately $900,000, the company said.

“These projects will replace mains that date back to the early 1900s,” said Mark Smith, Pennsylvania American Water’s manager of field operations.

“The new pipe will provide improved reliability, as well as improved fire protection for our customers.”

Smith said lines will be replaced in the following areas: Poplar Avenue, Washington Street, South Fifth Street, South Sixth Street, Carter Avenue, West Avenue, Blairton Avenue, Townfair Drive and Vista Drive

Weather permitting; the company expects to complete pipe installation, service connection tie- ins and final paving restoration by the end of 2013.

During construction, customers might experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water and/or lower than normal water pressure. Crews will work as quickly as possible to shorten the length of these temporary inconveniences.
