WHITE TOWNSHIP: Plans for new dialysis clinic near Indiana hospital reviewed
A nonprofit organization is planning to build a new, 10,000-square-foot dialysis clinic next to Indiana Regional Medical Center.
The clinic is a project of Nashville, Tenn.-based Dialysis Clinic Inc., which, as its name suggests, runs dialysis clinics throughout the U.S. Two of those clinics are at 841 Hospital Road and the hospital’s outpatient center in Blairsville.
The one-story clinic would be located across from the Hospital Road entrance, behind the former BiLo. The White Township planning commission reviewed preliminary site plans during a meeting Tuesday.
The hospital owns the lot on which the clinic is to be built. Hospital officials did not return a phone call seeking comment this morning, and no representatives from the organization attended the meeting.
In other matters, the planning commission informally agreed to a variance relating to Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s proposed Wayne Avenue hotel.
Site plans for the hotel, which would be built next to the Kovalchick Convention and Athletic Complex, show one side of it encroaching on a setback line by about 8 feet, something the planning commission was unhappy about.
But during the meeting Tuesday night, attorney Michael Supinka, who is representing the hotel developer, told the commission that there really is no setback issue.
He said that although maps show the hotel on one lot and the Kovalchick complex on another, the lots effectively are one and the same because they both are controlled by the university.
The commission accepted the argument, but it put off a vote on the site plans pending a review of its stormwater management plans and of its compliance with the flood plain management ordinance.
Commission Chairman Robert Begg told Indiana University of Pennsylvania representatives he believed final approval of the site plans would come next month.
