Yellow Creek State Park is offering the following programs in early September. Mike Shaffer, park naturalist, will lead the programs.

• “It’s For The Birds,” 2-4 p.m., Environmental Learning Classroom

Feeding birds can be a wonderful hobby and winter time activity. Learn all there is about feeding wild birds. After the program, those interested can build their own feeders. These feeders make excellent gifts. If you would like to build a bird feeder, pre-registration is required; call the park office at (724) 357-7913. $20 for each bird feeder.

• “Bats: Up Close and Personal,” 7:30-9 p.m., North Shore Amphitheater

What do you know about bats? Do you see them as important to the environment? If not, come and learn about these misunderstood creatures, visit the park’s bat boxes and conduct a bat count. Last year, participants counted close to 200 bats coming out of just one bat house. Bring a blanket to sit on.

“Crayfishing,” 2-3:30 p.m., meet at the park office

Come on down and do some crayfishing like you’ve never done before. You will be amazed at how easy it is to catch crayfish without lifting a single rock.

Wear shoes that you don’t mind getting wet.
