5K race set at Marion Center
MARION CENTER — The fourth annual MCXC Summer Classic 5K race will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, on the Marion Center cross country course at the community park.
Race applications can be picked up at the Gingerbread Man Running Co. in Indiana, or participants can register the morning of the event.

Bob’s Pizza wins playoff game
Bob’s Pizza defeated Anderson Heating and Cooling, 10-8, in an Indiana Area Baseball Boosters playoff game Monday at the White Township Recreation Complex.
Zack Anderson doubled and finished with two hits for Bob’s, and Ken Marcoaldi and Matt Alsippi also chipped in two hits each.
Scott Bowman tossed two innings of relief to pick up the win.
Ryan Mlakar slugged a home run, and John Croue added three hits for Anderson.
Bob’s advanced to face Fast Times Screen Printing on Wednesday.
• Kinkead Aggregates defeated Anderson Heating and Cooling, 10-8, in a game played Sunday.
Tony Nanni and Ryan Herring had three hits each to pace Kinkead (7-5). Dan Williams and Ryan Nanni had two hits each. Winning pitcher Mike Drew scored two runs.
Steve Bartek and Ryan Mylickar had two hits apiece for Anderson.
Sanso’s bows out of state playoffs
WEST POINT — Homer City-based Sanso’s historic season ended with a 17-16, eight-inning loss to Lionsville over the weekend in the Junior League girls’ softball state playoff tournament.
Sanso’s is believed to be the only Homer City girls’ softball team to reach the state playoff tournament in its 55 years of existence.
Morgan Buggey had four hits, including two triples and a double, to pace Sanso’s. Olivia Riley and Jess Gess also added four hits apiece. Abby Yancy and Abbey Ginter had three hits each, and Yancy added a double.
Emily Worcester pitched all eight innings, striking out nine and walking four.
Sanso’s also lost to Warrington/Warrick and eventual runner-up Montoursville in the tournament.
Travel baseball teams gearing up
Play Ball Sports is forming travel baseball teams for the 2014 season.

Illig places third in tourney
ALTOONA — Ian Illig, of Homer City, finished in third place in his division in Monday’s North East Junior Golf Tour event at Park Hills Country Club.
Illig fired a 77, good for third in the boys’ age 16-18 Oakmont Division.
