AROUND THE AREA: Indiana to hold wrestling tourney

The Indiana Wrestling Boosters will hold the 12th annual Harry “Bo” Wood Tournament on Saturday at Fifth Street Gymnasium.

The 16-team tournament will include Indiana, Blairsville and Marion Center.

With between 150 and 200 wrestlers from districts 6, 7, 9, 10 and 11 at the event, it will be the largest high school wrestling tournament in Indiana County history.

The Indiana Wrestling Boosters are also simultaneously holding a junior varsity tournament in the old gymnasium that is expected to bring around 200 wrestlers.

IHS wrestlers drop section match

Fox Chapel took advantage of three forfeits and defeated Indiana, 59-18, in a WPIAL Class 3A Section 3-B wrestling match Wednesday at Fifth Street Gymnasium.

Indiana’s David McElravy won by fall at 145 pounds, and Brent Johnson (220) and Dylan McAnulty (170) won by decision.

Indiana (0-4) plays host to the 12th annual Harry “Bo” Wood tournament on Saturday.

Krecota, Pounds win events for Stingrays

MARION CENTER — Lauren Krecota won two individual events and helped a relay team to a victory in Marion Center’s swim meet against Huntingdon on Wednesday.

Krecota won the 200 individual medley and 500 freestyle and teamed up with Cherise Schultz, Elizabeth Vaglia and Bridget Gardner in the 400 freestyle relay.

The Stingrays lost the meet. 101-63.

In the boys’ meet, Zachary Pounds improved on his District 6 qualifying time in the 100 butterfly and teamed up with Seth White, Traveil Parsell and Ben Johns to win the 200 freestyle relay. Marion Center’s Johns, Parsell, Edward Clark and Brandon O;Hara won the 400 freestyle relay.

Marion Center lost the meet, 110-57.

The Stingrays welcome Hollidaysburg on Monday.

United wins basketball games

ARMAGH — United defeated Ligonier Valley, 43-27, in a ninth-grade boys’ basketball game Wednesday.

For United, Austin Kovalcik scored 10 points, and Hunter Cameron added nine.

Cage Dowden scored nine points to pace the Rams.

United won the seventh- and eighth-grade game, 36-25.

Eli Clevenger scored 10 points to lead the Lions.

United travels to Marion Center today.

DuBois tops NC rifle team

NORTHERN CAMBRIA — DuBois defeated Northern Cambria, 1,359 to 1,201, in a non-conference rifle match Wednesday.

Joel Ludwig fired a 259 to lead the Colts. Evan Horvath carded a 245, and Chris Smith posted a 233.

DuBois won the junior varsity match, 271-257.

Northern Cambria plays host to Conemaugh Township today.
