APOLLO-RIDGE 55, SALTSBURG 22: The host Vikings built a 10-point lead after the first quarter and never looked back en route to winning the title at the Apollo Trust Company Christmas Tournament.

It is Apollo-Ridge’s second tournament title in the first month of the season. The Vikings also won the Springdale Tip-Off Tournament on Dec. 7.

Ashley Emminger scored 14 points for Apollo-Ridge and was named the tournament MVP. Julia DeMeno was also voted to the all-tournament team.

Apollo-Ridge opened a 15-5 lead after the first quarter, stretched it to 33-15 by halftime and was never threatened as Saltsburg mustered just seven second-half points.

Emilie Okopal and Abbie Okopal represented runner-up Saltsburg on the all-tournament team.

Apollo-Ridge (7-1) welcomes Burrell on Thursday. Saltsburg plays host to Ligonier Valley on Jan. 6.


HOMER-CENTER 48, RICHLAND 38: Julia Buggey and Kristina Albright scored 15 points apiece to guide the Wildcats to a bounce-back win in the consolation game of the Richland Holiday Classic.

After a tight first quarter, Homer-Center outscored the host Rams 19-11 in the second quarter to take an eight-point halftime lead, 29-21. The Wildcats stretched the lead to as many as 18 points in the fourth quarter before Richland started fouling the Wildcats and narrowed the final margin.

Homer-Center struggled from the free throw line, going 16-for-37 for the game, including 4-for-16 in the fourth quarter, which allowed the Rams to inch closer but not enough to pose a threat.

Alexis Leysock had four points, 10 rebounds and six assists in an all-around performance for Homer-Center. Buggey was named to the all-tournament team.

Homer-Center (3-5) visits Blairsville on Friday.


WINDBER 47, PENNS MANOR 34: After keeping up with Windber throughout the first half, Penns Manor’s offense went silent and mustered just 11 second-half points as the host Comets stumbled in the championship game of the Penns Manor Holiday Classic.

Sarah DaBella posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, but the Comets couldn’t overcome a two-point third quarter, after which they trailed 33-25.

DaBella was voted to the all-tournament team. Kaitlyn Weaver scored 18 points to lead Windber.

Penns Manor (3-6) visits Marion Center on Friday.


MARION CENTER 54, PUNXSUTAWNEY 51: Marion Center maintained a slim lead throughout the entire fourth quarter, keeping it between three and six points, and held off the host Chucks in the consolation game of the Punxsutawney Holiday Tournament.

Chantel Glasser hit three 3s and scored 22 points to lead the Stingers, and she was voted to the all-tournament team.

Taylor Newcome scored a game-high 23 points for the Chucks.

Marion Center (6-2) visits Penns Manor on Friday.


DELONE CATHOLIC 63, UNITED 36: The Squires’ Maddie Comly racked up more points than the Lions did through three quarters, and United suffered its second straight loss in the Bishop Guilfoyle Holiday Tournament consolation game.

Comly scored 32 points to lead Delone Catholic, which lost to Blairsville by one point Friday.

United was down 33-21 at halftime and then managed just 15 points in the second half. Eden Bloom scored a team-high 13 points for the Lions and was named to the all-tournament team. Kylee Surike added nine points and grabbed 10 rebounds, and Taylor Mack received the tournament’s hustle award.

United (6-3) will play host to Ligonier Valley on Jan. 8.


PORTAGE 76, LIGONIER VALLEY 44: The Mustangs built a 45-24 lead at the break and then pulled away in the second half of the title game to win the Ligonier Valley tournament for the second straight year.

Portage recorded 10 more field goals than the Rams and had four players score in double figures. The two teams combined to go 45 of 65 from the free throw line.

Amanda Ross scored a team-high nine points for Ligonier Valley, and Madison McLaughlin chipped in eight. McLaughlin was named to the all-tournament team.

The Rams visits Saltsburg on Jan. 6.
