HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Saltsburg rallies past Northern Cambria

Trailing by one entering the fourth quarter, host Saltsburg came alive in the final period and dispatched Northern Cambria, 61-45, in a Heritage Conference girls’ basketball game Wednesday night.

“We had a rough start,” Saltsburg coach Janelle Reed said. “We missed a lot of easy bunnies. I’m proud of the girls in the fourth quarter. They just didn’t give up. They really came alive when they needed to.”

The Trojans broke out for 27 points in the fourth quarter after trailing by one, 35-34, after three periods.

Abby Peace scored a game-high 16 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for a double-double. Abbie Okopal had 14 points, five steals and three assists. Emilie Okopal added four steals and three assists, and Kiana Reed swiped four steals.

Katie Baum led the Colts with 13 points. Desiree Peles made three 3-pointers and scored 12 points, and Allison Sedlock added 10 points.

Both teams play road games Friday. Saltsburg (6-7 overall, 4-3 Heritage Conference) visits United, and Northern Cambria (3-8, 1-6) travels to Harmony.


UNITED 50, PENNS MANOR 34: Three players reached double-figure scoring for United, and Eden Bloom had a double-double as the Lions beat Penns Manor in a Heritage Conference game in Armagh.

Bloom scored 11 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Kylee Surike led United with a game-high 14 points. Hope Hixson added 11 points, eight rebounds and five steals.

Mary Roach scored 12 points and dished out six assists for the Comets. Sarah DaBella had a double-double of her own, with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Both teams play home games Friday. United (8-4, 6-2) welcomes Saltsburg, and Penns Manor (4-9, 2-6) plays host to Blairsville.


LIGONIER VALLEY 58, PURCHASE LINE 24: Ligonier Valley shut out Purchase Line, 20-0, in the first quarter, and cruised to victory in a Heritage Conference game in Ligonier.

Taylor Rudnik scored 15 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and grabbed six steals to lead the Rams. She also made three 3-pointers.

Olivia Miller also had 15 points, and Madison McLaughlin added 13.

Ashley Goodlin led the Red Dragons with six points.

Ligonier Valley (6-6, 5-4) plays host to Homer-Center tonight. Purchase Line (2-11) travels to Marion Center on Friday.
