HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Ligonier Valley rallies for second straight day

Ligonier Valley rallied from an early deficit for a second straight day and defeated Blairsville, 22-25, 25-21, 25-22, 25-21, in a Heritage Conference girls’ volleyball match Thursday in Blairsville.

Becca Kromel led Ligonier Valley with 12 service points and five aces. Taylor Rudnik had eight kills, and Amanda Ross added six kills and five blocks for the visiting Rams.

Kia Clayton powered Blairsville with nine kills, eight assists and five blocks. Abby Peace added seven kills, three blocks, two aces and 10 assists, and Mary Ann Ostach had seven blocks.

On Wednesday, in its season opener, Ligonier Valley rallied from an 0-2 deficit to win a non-conference match against Hollidaysburg in five sets.

Ligonier Valley won the junior varsity match against Blairsville, 25-15, 25-9.

Both teams play Tuesday. Ligonier Valley (2-0) plays host to Homer-Center and Blairsville (0-1) travels to United.


PENNS MANOR 3, UNITED 0: Penns Manor swept United, 25-13, 25-14, 25-15, in a Heritage Conference match in Kenwood.

Sarah DaBella paced Penns Manor with nine kills and eight aces. Mallory Drahnak added 21 assists, Heather Aikens and Taylor Rainey each had five kills, and Mary Roach tacked on seven digs.

Penns Manor won the junior varsity match, 25-22, 25-16.

Both teams play Tuesday. Penns Manor (2-0) travels to Northern Cambria and United plays host to Blairsville.


NORTHERN CAMBRIA 3, MARION CENTER 1: Northern Cambria beat Marion Center, 25-15, 25-14, 30-32, 25-20, in a Heritage Conference match in Marion Center.

Samantha Frye led Marion Center with 16 digs. Morgan Glasser added 12 digs, and Chantel Glasser had five aces.

Northern Cambria won the JV match, 25-16, 25-23.

Both teams play Tuesday. Northern Cambria plays host to Penns Manor and Marion Center travels to Purchase Line.


PURCHASE LINE 3, HOMER-CENTER 0: Purchase Line earned its first win by sweeping Homer-Center, 25-19, 26-24, 25-23, in a Heritage Conference match in Homer City.

Jaycelyn Fleming led Purchase Line with eight kills and two blocks. Kira Smith added seven digs, Anna Harkleroad tacked on 10 service points, and Amy Elling had 21 assists and four aces.

Purchase Line won the JV match, 25-21, 27-25.

Purchase Line (1-1) plays host to Marion Center on Tuesday. Homer-Center welcomes Blairsville on Thursday.


APOLLO-RIDGE 3, EAST ALLEGHENY 2: Apollo-Ridge outlasted East Allegheny, 25-19, 25-14, 22-25, 18-25, 15-12, in a WPIAL non-section match in Spring Church.

Claire Broman racked up 11 aces to power Apollo-Ridge. Andrea Hancock added nine aces, Kira Marks tacked on four kills and three blocks, and Kayla Gunnerson chipped in three kills.

East Allegheny won the junior varsity match.

Apollo-Ridge (2-0) plays host to Valley on Monday.
