HIGH SCHOOL SWIMMING: Both Indiana teams pick up wins
PITTSBURGH — The Indiana boys’ and girls’ swim teams swept Taylor Allderdice in a WPIAL non-section dual meet Thursday.
The Indiana boys’ team earned its first win by beating Class AAA Taylor Allderdice, 106-56, and the girls’ team improved to 2-1 with a 96-73 win.
John Zarpentine won the 50 freestyle to lead the boys’ team (1-2). Zarpentine also anchored the winning 200 medley relay, which included Grant Hess, Wei-Wei Wu and Logan Hess, and swam the first leg of the winning 200 freestyle relay team, which included Joey Churner, Ben Peng and Grant Hess.
Frank Bevevino joined Logan Hess, Churner and Peng on the winning 400 freestyle relay team.
Other first-place finishers were Bevevino (100 butterfly), Peng (100 freestyle), Grant Hess (500 freestyle) and Wu (100 breaststroke).
Anna Paccapaniccia won the 50 freestyle and the 100 breaststroke to pace the girls’ team. Paccapaniccia also swam on the winning 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams.
The 200 medley relay team also included Anna Manges, Sophie Manges and Gabby Bobak, and the 200 freestyle relay team featured Bobak, Sarah Henderson and Eliza O’Neal.
Anna Manges won the 100 backstroke, and Sophie Manges took the 500 freestyle and swam on the winning 400 freestyle relay team, which also included Hannah Schwartz, Cassidy Newman and O’Neal.
Indiana travels to the West Allegheny Invitational on Dec. 28.
