HIGH SCHOOL SWIMMING: Indiana splits meet
IMPERIAL — Indiana split a WPIAL Class AA non-section swimming and diving meet with West Allegheny on Tuesday. The Indiana boys’ team won, 98-88, and the girls’ team lost, 97-88.
Sophie Manges (200 individual medley, 500 freestyle) and Anna Paccapaniccia (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle) won two events each for the Indiana girls. Gabby Bobak finished first in the 100 breaststroke.
Indiana’s 200 medley relay team, of Anna Manges, Paccapaniccia, Sophie Manges and Bobak, and its 200 freestyle relay team, of Paccapaniccia, Eliza O’Neal, Bobak and Sophie Manges, each added first-place finishes.
Ben Peng led the Indiana boys, qualifying for the WPIAL championships with a first-place time in the 100 backstroke, of 1:04.5. Johnathan Zarpentine (50 freestyle), Braydon Sharbaugh (1-meter diving) and Wei-Wei Wu (100 breaststroke) also won individual events.
Indiana’s 200 medley relay team, of Brendan Bertig, Wu, Logan Hess and Zarpentine, also took first.
Both Indiana teams are 3-2. The Indians visit Burrell for a WPIAL Section 4-AA meet this evening.
