HIGH SCHOOL SWIMMING: Stingrays' Gordish leads area swimmers at PIAAs

LEWISBURG — The Class AA competition at the PIAA Swimming Championships got under way Friday at Bucknell University, with several local athletes competing.

Marion Center senior Adam Gordish highlighted the local contingent’s showing Friday with a 16th-place finish in the 100 butterfly. Also in the 100 butterfly, Indiana’s Logan Hess took 27th and Johnathan Zarpentine was 28th.

Grant Hess placed 19th for the Indiana boys in the 200 IM, and diver Morgan Madill was 32nd in the 1-meter discipline.

Indiana’s 200 medley relay team took 18th.

On the girls’ side, Sophie Manges competed in the 200 IM (27th, 2:19.40) and Derry’s Danielle Jellison swam in the 100 butterfly (27th, 1:01.71).

The Derry girls’ 200 freestyle relay reached the finals and placed 11th while Indiana’s relay placed 16th. Also, Indiana’s 200 medley relay team placed 15th.
