HIGH SCHOOL SWIMMING: Stingrays sweep past Bishop McCort
MARION CENTER — Seventeen Marion Center swimmers finished first and eight others took second place as the Stingrays swept Bishop McCort in a non-conference swim meet Monday.
The Marion Center boys’ team won, 70-41, and the girls’ team won, 91-41.
Adam Gordish paced the boys’ team by winning the 200 individual medley and the 100 freestyle. Gordish also anchored the Stingrays’ winning relay teams, the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.
The 200 freestyle relay team also included Richard Ankney, Kyle Anderson and Zach Pounds, and the 400 freestyle relay team included Zane Bennett, Mitchell Gordish and Pounds.
Also, Bennett won the 500 freestyle, and Mitchell Gordish took the 50 freestyle, posting a District 6 qualifying time in that event.
Brittany Gaston, Kimmi Donaldson, Morgan Tonkin and Robin Schultz each won a pair of individual events to guide the girls’ team.
Gaston won the 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle, Donaldson took the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke, Tonkin won the 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke, and Schultz won the 100 butterfly and the 500 freestyle.
Gaston, Donaldson, Tonkin and Schultz also made up the winning 200 medley relay team as the Stingrays won all three relays.
Donaldson anchored the winning 200 freestyle relay team, which also included Erika Mack, Malloy Dixon and Alexis Mouser.
The winning 400 freestyle relay team consisted of Tonkin, Mack, Gaston and Schultz.
Marion Center plays host to Westmont Hilltop on Wednesday.
