HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL: Indiana sweeps again, moves to 13-0

Indiana is one win away from a perfect regular season.

The Indians swept Derry, 25-19, 25-22, 25-13, in a WPIAL Section 3-AA girls’ volleyball match Thursday evening at Fifth Street Gymnasium, improving to 13-0 overall with one regular-season match left, Tuesday at Apollo-Ridge.

Natalie Cignetti made 16 kills and Aaryn Gray added nine for Indiana, which improved to 9-0 in section play.

Derry won the junior varsity match, two games to one.


PENNS MANOR 3, HOMER-CENTER 0: Penns Manor cruised past Homer-Center, 25-21, 25-5, 25-7, in a Heritage Conference match in Kenwood.

Sarah DaBella led the Comets with eight kills and 15 digs. Mary Roach added 11 digs. Heather Aikens had six kills, and Mallory Drahnak dished out 20 assists.

Penns Manor won the junior varsity match, two games to none.

Both teams play Tuesday. Penns Manor (10-2) visits Marion Center, and Homer-Center welcomes Northern Cambria.


WEST SHAMOKIN 3, SPRINGDALE 1: West Shamokin prevailed, 25-22, 25-15, 24-26, 25-13, in a WPIAL Section 1-A match in NuMine. Katie Glover made 21 kills to pace the Wolves. Stephanie Schrecengost added 10 kills. Alecia Calhoun had six kills and six blocks, and Sierra Dailey had 36 assists.

West Shamokin won the JV match, two games to none.

West Shamokin (8-1) plays at Riverview on Tuesday.


LIGONIER VALLEY 3, PURCHASE LINE 2: Ligonier Valley climbed out of a two-game hole and scored a victory, 21-25, 20-25, 25-10, 25-22, 15-6, in a Heritage Conference match in Purchase Line. Amy Elling totaled eight kills, 20 assists and seven service points to lead the Red Dragons.

Mikhala Stover added seven kills, 11 digs and 10 service points. Jacelyn Fleming had eight kills, Allison Goodlin six kills and 13 digs, Megan Hudson 14 service points and Kira Smith 10 digs.

Purchase Line won the junior varsity match, 25-15, 21-25, 15-7.

Both teams play Tuesday. Ligonier Valley (11-3) welcomes United, and Purchase Line (6-7) visits Blairsville.


NORTHERN CAMBRIA 3, BLAIRSVILLE 0: Host Northern Cambria swept Blairsville, 25-17, 25-20, 26-24, in a Heritage Conference match.

The Colts won the junior varsity match, 25-17, 25-16.

No further details were reported.

Both teams play Tuesday. Northern Cambria (10-2) travels to Homer-Center, and Blairsville (5-6 conference) welcomes Purchase Line.


CALVARY BAPTIST 3, ARMBRUST 0: Calvary Baptist swept Armbrust Christian School, 25-16, 25-20, 25-13, in a non-conference match in Clymer.

Megan Plants led the Patriots with 13 kills, 12 service points and five aces. Erica Stevens had 13 service points and three aces, and Kayla Chambers added seven kills and two aces.

Calvary Baptist (6-3) visits Mount Carmel Christian on Tuesday.
