HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Ligonier Valley secures share of conference title

Host Ligonier Valley secured a share of the conference championship by sweating out a win over Northern Cambria, 26-24, 19-25, 10-25, 25-18, 15-13, in a Heritage Conference girls’ volleyball match Tuesday.

The Colts won the first meeting this year with the Rams, and both teams finished with two conference losses. Ligonier Valley (13-4) and Northern Cambria (13-3) each concluded its regular seasons and qualified for the District 6 playoffs. The district’s pairings meeting is Friday.

Becca Kromel led Ligonier Valley with 11 service points, 10 digs and eight kills. Shelbi Shearer added 11 service points and eight kills, Amanda Ross had eight blocks and seven kills, Taylor Rudnik chipped in 11 kills, Madison McLaughlin tallied 10 kills, and Rachel Wallace notched nine digs.

Ligonier Valley won the junior varsity match, 25-14, 25-13.


BLAIRSVILLE 3, PENNS MANOR 0: Host Blairsville dashed Penns Manor’s hopes of capturing its second straight conference title by sweeping the Comets, 25-20, 26-24, 26-24, in a Heritage Conference match.

Abby Peace powered Blairsville with eight kills and six assists. Kristina Pizer added 12 assists.

Sarah DaBella piled up 12 kills to power Penns Manor. Mary Roach added eight kills, and Mallory Drahnak had 30 assists.

Penns Manor won the junior varsity match, 25-14, 21-25, 15-13.

The Comets (12-4) and Bobcats (8-6) each concluded their regular seasons and qualified for the District 6 Class A playoffs.

The district’s pairings meeting will be held Friday.


PURCHASE LINE 3, UNITED 0: Host Purchase Line swept United, 25-14, 25-16, 26-24, in a Heritage Conference match.

Jaycelyn Fleming racked up 12 kills and two blocks for Purchase Line. Amy Elling added 26 assists, eight service points, six aces and a block, Mikhala Stover added 12 service points and five digs, and Megan Hudson had nine service points.

Purchase Line won the junior varsity match, 25-16, 19-25, 15-5.

Purchase Line (7-9) ended its season


CALVARY BAPTIST 3, BIBLE BAPTIST CHRISTIAN SCHOOL 0: Calvary Baptist swept Bible Baptist Christian School, 25-11, 25-3, 25-20, in a non-conference match in Clymer.

Rachel Covato led Calvary Baptist with 23 service points and three aces. Megan Plants had seven kills, 19 service points and four aces, and Amy Frick added six kills.

Calvary Baptist (7-5) travels to the Keystone Christian Education Association State Tournament, which will be held in Lebanon on Friday.
