HS BASEBALL: Wildcats lose in title game
HOMER CITY — Homer-Center had no answer to Richland’s mighty start, and the Wildcats were held scoreless from the third inning on in a 9-3 loss to the Rams in the championship game of the Homer-Center baseball tournament Saturday.
Richland jumped to a 5-0 lead in the top of the first inning and tacked on another four runs in the second while Homer-Center managed just two in the first and one in the second. The Rams sent 10 batters to the plate in the first.
“Richland came in today and made a statement early, and we just couldn’t respond offensively,” Homer-Center coach Scott Bauer said. “We were the only single-A team in the tournament, and I thought we held our own and played pretty well. We need to take this experience and use it to help us down the road.”
Ean Lee, Bryan Buzi and Andrew Gaydosh each had a hit for the Wildcats.
Isiah Carr suffered the loss for Homer-Center, and Matt Jones struck out nine and walked none in six innings of relief.
Homer-Center (7-5) plays host to Purchase Line on Wednesday.
