HS BASKETBALL: Weather continues to rain on district playoffs

by The Indiana Gazette on February 27, 2013 10:30 AM

Tuesday’s games in the District 6 basketball tournament were moved to today due to inclement weather.

This is the second time this season that an entire day of playoff games was wiped out because of weather. Last Friday’s slate was pushed back a day because of snow and ice on the eastern part of the district.

In this evening’s Class AA semifinal games at Hollidaysburg High School, the Blairsville girls tip off against Bald Eagle Area at 6 p.m. followed by Northern Cambria against Bald Eagle in boys’ action at 7:30 p.m.

Tonight’s winners play in championship games Saturday at St. Francis University, with the girls tipping off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the boys at 7.

Tonight’s losers will play in consolation games Friday, but those sites and times have not been set.

Also, the site has been set for Thursday’s Class A consolation games. The Penns Manor girls play Juniata Valley at 6 p.m. at Bishop Carroll High School followed by the Homer-Center boys against Juniata Valley at 7:30 p.m. Penns Manor has already clinched a berth in the state tournament, while Homer-Center needs a victory to advance.

In a Class AAA girls’ semifinal Thursday at Central Cambria, Ligonier Valley will take on the winner of tonight’s game between Westinghouse and Johnstown.

In WPIAL action tonight, Apollo-Ridge takes on Beaver Falls at 8 p.m. at North Allegheny High School. The winner advances to the championship game Saturday at 1 p.m. at Duquesne University’s A.J. Palumbo Center.
