H.S. FOOTBALL: Homer-Center 41, Penns Manor 21

HOMER CITY — Homer-Center claimed its first Heritage Conference football championship with a victory over Penns Manor in a battle of unbeaten teams in front of approximately 3,000 people at Memorial Field on Friday night.

The Wildcats pulled away after the Comets had tied the score at 21 with just under seven minutes left in the third quarter.

Homer-Center (9-0, 8-0 Heritage Conference) responded to Penns Manor’s tying score with a 15-play, 70-yard drive capped by Aaron Berezansky’s nine-yard touchdown pass to Ean Lee.

Homer-Center put the game away with two fourth-quarter scoring drives capped by Berezansky runs.

The Wildcats outgained Penns Manor 253-236. Lee led Homer-Center with 115 yards on 13 carries. He broke off a 65-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.

Homer-Center took a 14-0 lead on Matt McAdoo’s 16-yard run and Anthony Caruso’s 74-yard fumble return.

Bailey Mumau caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Lucas Kowalski, and Louie Tate and Stephen Dumm scored on runs for the Comets (8-1, 7-1).

Kowalski was 9 of 15 passing for 105 yards with a touchdown and an interception. Penns Manor also lost three fumbles.

Homer-Center took sole possession of the top spot in the District 6 Class A rankings and can clinch home-field advantage through the district playoffs with a win over Portage next Friday. Penns Manor, which entered the night tied for first in the rankings, welcomes Keystone on Friday.
