HS HOCKEY: Indiana cruises to 13-0 victory
CONNELLSVILLE -- Indiana shut out Connellsville, 13-0, in a Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League Open Division game at the Ice Mine on Monday.
Austin Jasper had a hat trick for Indiana, and Pat Hunter and Jess Bartholow had two goals apiece. Camden Lydick, Tanner Baylor, Dominick Glavach, Noah Moody, Andrew Roth and Tony Lenzi rounded out the scoring with one goal each.
Tanner Baylor had three assists, Barth-olow and Luke Lewandowski had two each, and Lydick, Hunter, Jacob Miller, Michael Demeno, Roth, Moody, Zachary Jones and Cole Shaffer notched one assist each.
Austin Moody played the first period in goal and stopped one shot. Megan Lydick took over and made three saves.
Indiana (3-1) plays at Ford City on Thursday.
Hockey teams go 6-0
Indiana Youth Hockey Association teams went 6-0 over the weekend.
The girls' 14-and-under team scored a pair of shutouts, beating North Hills 5-0 and South Hills 2-0.
Hanna Fondren scored two goals in the win over North Hills, and Natilie Hill, Ashley Yanni and Taylor Lang scored one apiece. Allisyn Arotin dished out four assists, and Fondren and Shelby Kerstetter had one each. Madison Barker made 15 saves in goal.
Barker made 29 saves against South Hills, and Arotin scored both goals. Fondren and Carlie Glavach each had an assist.
The Pee Wee A Minor Division team beat the Johnstown Jets 5-1 and the Mount Lebanon Hornets 5-1.
Danny Brody scored two goals in the win over Johnstown, and Matt Berzonsky, Gunner Sharp and Dillon Berezansky scored one apiece. Berezansky handed out two assists, and Sharp and Tanner Russella each had one. Alex Nanni made six saves in goal.
Berezansky racked up three goals in the win over Mount Lebanon, and Cassie Kerstetter and Sharp scored one each. Vinny Sherry finished with two assists, and Ed Williams had one. Nanni made 14 saves.
The Squirt A Major Division team shot past State College 7-5 and beat the Pittsburgh Aviators 4-2.
Zach Eisenhowser, Joey Semetoskey and Danny Williams each fired in two goals, and Ray Kovach had the other. Orlando Clark, Eisenhower, Nate Petro and Zak Wood each dished out two assists, and Owen Lydick, Ray Kovach and Tanner MacBlane each had one. Nanni made 14 saves.
Clark scored two goals against the Aviators, and Petro and Semetkoskey each had one. Williams handed out three assists, and Clark chipped in one. Hayden Kramer made 16 saves.
YMCA swimmers qualify
Sixteen Indiana County YMCA swimmers posted district-qualifying times in a pair of meets over the weekend.
Gabby Bobak, Mackenzie Donahue, Adam Gordish, Gage Hess, Grant Hess, Kenzie Kessler, Lauren Krecota, Anna Manges, Sophie Manges, Madeline Menta, Daniel Peng and Jayde Resnick posted their times at the Club Mountaineer Classic in West Virginia. Parker Fanella, Lindsey Griffith, Kyle Ickes and Anthony Scott posted their times at the Newcastle Invitational Fall Classic.
The Piranhas hold their first home meet of season Saturday against Wilmerding.
IUP players earn honors
IUP women's soccer players Tonya Fabian, Brittney Kuhns and Kelsey Fisher have been named to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference all-star team.
Fabian earned a spot on the first team, Kuhns landed on the second team, and Fisher was selected to the third team.
Fabian, a junior midfielder, finished second on the team with 18 points on seven goals and four assists.
Kuhns, a sophomore forward, led the team and ranked second in the PSAC with 12 goals. She added four assists.
Fisher, a junior midfielder, finished third on the team in goals with four and points with 12.
IUP finished 9-6-4 and advanced to the PSAC playoffs for the ninth straight season.
