HS LACROSSE: Indiana wins lacrosse match

PITTSBURGH — Indiana thumped Taylor Allderdice, 18-3, in a WPIAL Division 2 Section 1 lacrosse game Wednesday at Cupples Field.

Andrew Wetzel scored six goals to lead Indiana. David Zimmerman added three goals, Pat Snyder and Mike Supinka chipped in two goals apiece, and Ryan Watters, Brandon Dixon, John Lewis Gatti, Kyle Wilson and Garrett Sharp each tacked on a goal.

Goalie Sean Rhodes made three saves, and Mat Kittleman made two. Keldon Spicher had six ground balls, and Sharp added four ground balls.

Indiana (7-3, 3-1 section) travels to Mars on Thursday.

IASB teams win five games

Indiana Area Soccer Boosters teams enjoyed a successful weekend, posting a combined record of 5-0-1.

The U-10 girls’ Lightning ripped Loyalhanna, 14-0. Isabella Garzarelli scored five goals to lead Indiana. Alicia Mitchell added three goals, Sophia Garzarelli added two, and Emily Sebring, Emily Scherf, Carly Carion and Giavonna Spadafora each tacked on a goal.

Scherf and Sophia Garzarelli combined on the shutout in goal.

In their second game of the weekend, the Lightning lost to East Allegheny, 3-2. Sebring netted both of Indiana’s goals.

• The U-10 Red Hawks defeated Hempfied, but no score was reported. Aaron McKelvy scored two goals to lead Indiana. Ethan Black added two assists, and Ethan Shearer, Danny Turner, Adam Shephard, and Evan Jackson each had an assist. Jack Turner and McKelvy shared goaltending duties.

• The U-10 Red Hawks beat Hempfield, 9-3. Josh Glaser paced Indiana with three goals and two assists. Vince Belice added three goals, Isaac Myers had two goals and an assist, and Noah Grattan added a goal. Dominic Groman and Kobi Parks each chipped in an assist.

Groman, Jack Mock and Nickolas Detwiler split time in goal.

• The girls’ U-12 Thunder edged Norwin, 1-0. Emily Wright scored Indiana’s lone goal.

Gabriella Spadafora and Jenna Monteleone each played in goal.

• The U-16 boys’ team tied the Pittsburgh Dynamos, 2-2. Braydon Sharbaugh and Garret Sharp each scored a goal for Indiana. David McKelvy added an assist.

Hunter Scherf and Joel Knupp each played in goal.

Indiana girls win junior high meet

The Indiana seventh- and eighth-grade girls’ track and field team defeated host Greensburg Salem, 85-38, on Wednesday.

Jess Stever led Indiana by winning the 200, the 400 and the high jump. Stever also anchored the winning 1,600 relay, which also consisted of Jordan Raible, Rebecca Olechovski and Abby Myers.

The Indians also won the 3,200 relay and the 400 relay. The 3,200 relay team consisted of Melanie Zolocik, Rebecca Olechovski, Myers and Teresa Roth, and 400 relay team was made up of Emily Pineda, Victoria Mbogo, Kate Rairigh and Bailey Dills.

Other first-place finishers were Olechovski (long jump), Myers (triple jump), Clara Sherwood (pole vault), Kalyn Menifee (shot put) and Sarah Coffman (discus).

IABB sets online registration

Registration for the Indiana Area Baseball Boosters can be done online by email to boosterball@ The deadline is June 1.

The team aims to set its roster by May 15 but will accept registration until June 1.

The league is open to anyone age 16 and older, with no maximum age. The entry fee is $40.

Todd Bird Club sets banquet

ERNEST — The Todd Bird Club will hold its annual banquet meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Blue Spruce Lodge in Blue Spruce County Park.

Bob Greene, an accomplished birder-photographer from Pittsburgh, will present videos of his favorite birding locations.

The meeting and program are open to the public. Those attending are asked to bring their own place-setting and a covered dish to share.
