HS SOFTBALL: Blairsville runs record to 7-0

First-place Blairsville amassed 14 hits and ran its record to 7-0 by thumping host Purchase Line, 12-1, in a Heritage Conference softball game Friday.

The Bobcats extended their 4-0 first-inning lead by scoring five runs on five hits in the top of the third to take a 9-0 lead.

Winning pitcher Emilie Okopal tossed a two-hitter, striking out nine and walking one. Okopal also tripled, singled twice and drove in a pair of runs.

Sam Harsh doubled, singled twice and drove in two runs for Blairsville. Shelby Oswald doubled, singled and drove in two runs, and Jesse Harper doubled and singled.

Losing pitcher Amy Elling struck out five and walked two in 4 1-3 innings.

Both teams play Monday. Purchase Line (2-7) travels to Harmony, and Blairsville visits Penns Manor.

LIGONIER VALLEY 10, UNITED 0: Ligonier Valley racked up 10 hits and produced more than enough run support for ace Hailey Umbaugh to earn a win over visiting United in a Heritage Conference game that was shortened to five innings due to the mercy rule.

Umbaugh fired a two-hitter, striking out nine and walking one.

Breanne Wallace stroked two doubles and a triple to pace Ligonier Valley.

Ligonier Valley (6-1) plays host to North Star on Monday, and United welcomes Purchase Line on Tuesday.

MARION CENTER 10, BROOKVILLE 0: Marion Center ace Megan Risinger threw a three-hitter, and the Stingers plated four runs in the first inning in a win over host Brookville in a non-conference game.

The Stingers led 7-0 before scoring three runs on three hits and a walk in the top of the fourth inning to take a 10-0 lead.

“It’s nice getting a win over a good out-of-conference Double-A team,” Marion Center coach Ed Peterson said.

Risinger struck out eight and walked none. She also scored three runs.

Karlie Snyder had two hits, including a two-run home run, for the Stingers.Samantha Frye singled twice, tripled and drove in two runs, and Heidi Peterson and Kimmi Donaldson each singled twice.

Marion Center (7-1) plays host to Northern Cambria on Tuesday.
