HS TRACK AND FIELD: Indiana boys cruise, improve to 3-0
The Indiana High boys’ track and field team improved to 3-0 with a 97-29 victory over Latrobe in a WPIAL Section 1-AAA meet Wednesday. Indiana lost the girls’ meet 96-40.
Austin Rhodes (110 hurdles, 300 hurdles), Corey Denlinger (200, javelin) and Darnae Clemons (high jump, long jump) led the Indiana boys with two first-place finishes each. Edu Campos (100), Adam Lenze (1,600), Ryan Louther (800), Darrious Carter (triple jump), Justin Spencer (shot put) and Brian Waryck (pole vault) added victories for the Indians.
Abbey Karcher (high jump) and Erin Gray (long jump) scored wins for the Indiana girls (0-3). The girls’ 3,200 run and the 1,600 relay were not completed due to lightning.
COMETS, COLTS SPLIT: Penns Manor split with Northern Cambria in a Heritage Conference meet in Kenwood. The girls won 83-65 and the boys lost 90-60.
Caitlyn Bence led the Penns Manor girls (2-1) with wins in the 100 and 200. Bence also ran on the winning 400 and 1,600 relay teams.
The 400 relay team also consisted of Tara Miller, Sarah DaBella and Alissa Bennett, and the 1,600 relay team also consisted of Mary Roach, DaBella and Maddi Spiaggi. The 3,200 relay team, which was made up of Spiaggi, Roach, Devon Bratton and Alexa Sichko, also placed first. DaBella added wins in the discus and javelin, Miller won the long jump, Bennett took the triple jump, and Spiaggi placed first in the 400.
Allyson Kopera won the 1,600, the 800 and the 200 to lead the Northern Cambria girls. Renee Paronish won the 100 hurdles and the 300 hurdles, Adrienne Tubo took the pole vault and the high jump, and Alanah Pavlik placed first in the shot put.
In the boys’ meet, Northern Cambria’s Derek Bearer won the 400, Seth Bearer took the 200, and Tyler Olish won the high jump. They also ran on the winning 1,600 relay team. Other first-place finishers were Joey Frontino (110 hurdles), Gus Yahner (pole vault) and Mike Sowalla (300 hurdles).
Cody Bytner, J.T. Horwat and Danny Ferens each won a pair of events to pace the Penns Manor (0-3).
Bytner won the triple jump and long jump, Horwat placed first in the 1,600 and 3,200, and Ferens took the 100 and shot put. Bytner and Ferens also ran on the winning 400 relay team with Ryan Gromley and Nathan Dumm. Cory Brown won the discus.
Penns Manor travels to the Bedford Invitational on Saturday, and Northern Cambria visits Cambria Heights next Thursday.
