HS TRACK AND FIELD: Javelin throwers lead Indians

HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP — The Indiana boys snagged 12 top-six finishes and scored 60 points to place fourth at the Hempfield/Latrobe Invitational track and field meet Saturday.

Corey Denlinger won the javelin with a throw of 168 feet, 8 inches, and DeQuan West took second at 161-3.

Darnae Clemons placed second and West finished fourth in the high jump after each cleared 6 feet.

Brian Waryck (pole vault) and Edu Campos (long jump) took third place. Dakota Harper (pole vault), Clemons (long jump), Campos (100) and the 400 relay team (Tyler McCrea, Denlinger, Campos and Clemons) took fourth. Ryan Louther (800) was fifth, and Justin Spencer (shot put) took sixth.

The Indiana girls scored 16 points and placed 10th.

Aaryn Gray won the javelin with a throw of 121-9, and Jessica Hurley took third in the 400.

Indiana will return to Hempfield on Wednesday for a section meet with the Spartans and Penn-Trafford.

Indiana and Hempfield are undefeated.
