HS TRACK & FIELD: A-R boys dominate field events to win meet
PITTSBURGH — The Apollo-Ridge boys’ track and field team dominated the field events and beat Kiski School, 76-65, but fell to Shady Side Academy, 77-71, in a WPIAL non-section triangular meet Tuesday.
The Apollo-Ridge girls’ team lost to Shady Side Academy, 96-54.
Chanse Nappier led the boys by winning the long jump and the high jump and finishing second in the triple jump. Damon Blystone won the javelin, Ben Gemballa took the discus, Jesse Zelonka placed first in the shot put, and Charlie Thompson finished first in the 400.
Also, the Vikings’ 400 relay team, which consisted of Zelonka, Dom Schrecengost, Nappier and Dillon Tones, placed first.
Reannah Martin paced the girls’ team with wins in the 100 and the pole vault. Martin notched a school-record mark of 8 feet, 3 inches in the pole vault.
Sarah Bonelli won the 800, Joyce Daugherty took the discus, and Ariana Coleman placed first in the javelin. The Vikings’ 3,200 relay team also finished first.
Apollo-Ridge travels to Springdale on Tuesday.
IJHS GIRLS’ TEAM WINS MEET: The Indiana seventh- and eighth-grade girls’ track and field team defeated visiting Punxsutawney, 96-27, in a meet Tuesday.
Jessica Stever led Indiana with wins in the 400 and the high jump. Stever broke the school record in the high jump.
Megan Kester added a win in the 100. Kester also ran on the winning 400 and 1,600 relay teams. The 400 relay team also included Emily Pineda, Kacey Blair and Bailey Dills, and the 1,600 relay team also featured Jordan Raible, Stever and Abby Myers.
Other first-place finishers for Indiana were Teresa Roth (1,600), Myers (800 and triple jump), Pineda (200), Clara Sherwood (pole vault), Morgan Doolin (shot put) and Sarah Coffman (discus).
Also, the 3,200 relay team, which consisted of Sherwood, Becca Olechovski, Roth and Myers, also placed first.
