ICL BASEBALL ROUNDUP: First-place Blairsville crushes Amfire Mining, 10-1
Each team had seven hits, but first-place Blairsville had the better all-around day and earned its 11th win by crushing Amfire Mining, 10-1, in an Indiana County League baseball game Tuesday at Keystone Rehab Field.
The Colts scored three runs on three hits in the top of the second inning to build on their early one-run lead and make it a 4-0 game. Scott Harsh had an RBI single in the inning, and player-manager Joe Culler drove in a run with a fielder’s choice.
Blairsville tacked on a runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings and four runs in the seventh.
“We’ve just been trying to score runs throughout the game and put teams away before the last inning,” Culler said. “We just got our seventh come-from-behind win on Monday, so I got a lot of confidence from a game like this. Just being able to secure the lead and keep it the rest of the game was nice.”
Harsh powered Blairsville by going 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Ben Doak, Cory Manarelli, Jordan Truscott and Nick Draghi each singled and drove in a run.
Steve Janik struck out three, walked two and allowed seven hits in a complete-game win.
“Steve’s been pitching really well and we finally got him a win,” Culler said. “He deserved it. He’s been pitching well all year.”
