INDIANA COUNTY YOUTH LEGION ROUNDUP: Kovacik suffers first loss
I-Medical handed Kovacik Insurance its first loss, 2-1, in a duel involving three pitchers in Indiana County Youth Legion baseball action Monday at Punxsutawney.
The teams held each other scoreless until the seventh. Kovacik struck for a run in the top of the inning, and I-Medical pulled out the win when Dakota Byers smacked a bases-loaded double.
Byers started for I-Medical and pitched the first 3 2-3 innings before giving way to Lance Pennington, who pitched 3 1-3 innings and picked up the win.
Josh Daugherty pitched for Kovacik.
John Matthews had two of I-Medical’s six hits, and Joe Faulk had two of Kovacik’s four hits.
Both teams plays Wednesday. I-Medical plays at S.W. Jack, and Kovacik Insurance (3-1) visits Derry.
YOUNG TOWNSHIP 8, WALBECK INSURANCE 1: Tanner Yard had three hits, including a triple, to help his own cause on the mound as Young Township defeated Walbeck Insurance.
Yard struck out 10 and walked two in a complete-game effort.
Walbeck’s Alex Arone struck out two and walked one in three innings.
Young Township (2-1) visits Clymer Legion on Wednesday, and Walbeck (2-2) plays at Indiana Lions on Thursday.
FEZELL ENTERPRISES 14, MARION CENTER 0: Fezell Enterprises outhit winless Marion Center 11-3 and plated eight runs in the fourth inning to cruise to a mercy rule-shortened win in five innings.
Fezell Enterprises led 4-0 before plating eight runs on five hits and three errors in the top of the fourth to take a 12-0 lead.
Trent Stauffer fired a three-hitter, striking out six and walking one.
Dylan Bender doubled twice and drove in three runs to lead Fezell Enterprises. Tyler Geer singled twice and scored three runs, and Kelston Perry singles twice and scored two runs.
Both teams play Thursday. Marion Center (0-6) travels to Indiana Lions, and Fezell Enterprises plays host to United.
S.W. JACK 9, DERRY 5: S.W. Jack improved to 5-0 by cruising past Derry.
Cole Shaffer went 4-for-5 and posted the win for the Black Sox. Zack Shultz finished 2-for-3 and drove in three runs, and Bob Bell went 2-for-3 with a triple.
Shaffer struck out seven and walked three before giving way to Bell.
Both teams play Wednesday. S.W. Jack plays host to I-Medical, and Derry welcomes Kovacik Insurance.
