IUP ROUNDUP: Kempa, Timko earn more awards
IUP’s Zack Kempa and Tanya Timko were selected as recipients of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Spring Top 10 Award on Tuesday.
The PSAC Top 10 Awards are designed to recognize student-athletes who excel in the classroom and in athletic competition.
Kempa, a senior and the Crimson Hawks’ top men’s golfer for the past two seasons, graduated in May with a 3.675 cumulative grade-point average in marketing. He was also named to the Capital One Academic All-America Division II Men’s At-Large first team.
The two-time PSAC Golfer of the Year, he led the league and finished 41st in NCAA Division II with a 73.31 stroke average this season. He had seven top-10 finishes in 11 events, including individual victories at the Hal Hansen Invitational and the Glade Springs Intercollegiate Championship.
Timko finished her junior season as the No. 1 singles and doubles player for the women’s tennis team and posted a 3.96 GPA as a psychology major.
She had a breakout year, notching a combined 50 victories en route to being named the PSAC West Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Year. She was a perfect 6-0 in PSAC West play and went 6-1 against top 20 players from the Atlantic Region.
