IUP ROUNDUP: Norfleet, soccer team earn honors

IUP’s Brandon Norfleet has been named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division player of the week in basketball.

Norfleet scored a career-high 25 points against Pitt Johnstown on Wednesday and followed that with 20 against Clarion on Saturday. He also had six rebounds, five assists and three steals against Pitt Johnstown and had seven rebounds, three assists and two steals against Clarion. He went 17-for-27 from the field.

Norfleet, a 6-foot-4 sophomore, was the PSAC East Freshman of the Year last season at Cheyney before transferring to IUP.

IUP is 18-2 overall and holds first place in the PSAC West at 8-2. The Crimson Hawks play host to Seton Hill on Saturday.


SOCCER: IUP received the Team Academic Award and the Team Ethics and Sportsmanship Silver Award at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America banquet held in Philadelphia.

The academic award is given to a team with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.25 or higher. IUP had a 3.38.

For the Team Ethics and Sportsmanship award, each of the 254 college teams receive either gold, silver or bronze. Gold is awarded to programs that received no red or yellow cards during the season. Silver is awarded to programs that receive no red cards and no more than five yellow cards during the season, and bronze is awarded to programs that accumulate no more than 10 cards during the season.

IUP, which finished 9-8-1 overall and 5-4-0 in the PSAC, did not get any red cards and received four yellow cards.
