IUP bounced back from a loss in the national semifinals and capped the best season in the club team’s history by finishing third in the USA Rugby NCAA Division II women’s tournament Sunday.

IUP scored two tries in the final 15 minutes of the match to rally for a 19-17 win over Florida International in the third-place game.

Making their first trip to the Final Four, the Scooters lost to Cal State Northridge, 15-10, in the semifinals Saturday. IUP took a 5-0 lead before the Matadors scored 15 straight points to take a double-digit lead. IUP made a late charge, but the Scooters ran out of time to stage a comeback.

The Scooters, a club team, went 7-0 during the regular season in the fall to earn a bid to the USA Rugby Division II Sweet 16. IUP won a pair of matches there to advance to the Final Four for the first time since the club’s formation in 1996.
