IUP SOCCER: Crimson Hawks open season with 6-0 cakewalk
The IUP women’s soccer team opened its season in style Thursday, clobbering conference newcomer Pitt-Johnstown, 6-0.
Brittney Kuhns scored a hat trick for the Crimson Hawks, Tonya Fabian added a pair of goals and Kelsey Fisher also scored for IUP, which scored all its goals in the first half.
Fabian scored twice in the opening 10 minutes of the match, Fisher followed with her goal midway through the half for a 3-0 lead, and Kuhns wrapped up the first-half outburst with three goals over the final 15 minutes of the opening half.
IUP held a decisive 22-1 advantage in shots and a 13-1 edge in shots on goal.
Four IUP goalkeepers combined on the shutout.
Mara Hricik started the game in goal for IUP and recorded one save in the opening half before being pulled.
IUP (1-0, 1-0 PSAC) visits Seton Hill, another newcomer to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, on Saturday afternoon.
