IUP SOFTBALL: Risinger tosses shutout

CLERMONT, Fla. — IUP split a pair of games Friday at The Spring Games, dropping a 5-0 decision to Bemidji State before earning a 1-0 victory in eight innings over Saint Michael’s.

Megan Risinger, a Marion Center High School graduate, picked up the win against Saint Michael’s (Vt.).

Risinger pitched all eight innings, scattering five hits and striking out six.

IUP scored the lone run in the eighth after Alaina Montgomery was placed on second. Kaitlyn Beers singled to moved Montgomery to third. Beers then stole second, and Montgomery scored on a throwing error on the play.

IUP is 6-5. Bemidji State (Minn.) improved to 8-3, and Saint Michael’s fell to 0-9.

The Crimson Hawks play Southern Connecticut State and Dominican (N.J.) today.
