NCAA WRESTLING: Henderson reaches quarterfinals
Evan Henderson, an Armagh native who started his wrestling career at United High School before transferring to the Kiski School, won his first two matches at the NCAA Championships on Thursday. He is a sophomore at North Carolina.
Henderson, coming off an Atlantic Coast Conference championship, advanced to today’s quarterfinals at 141 pounds. He rolled into the quarterfinals behind a pin of Pasquale Greco of Northwestern in 5:27 to open the day before posting a 10-2 major decision against No. 12 seed Chris Mecate of Old Dominion.
The fifth-seeded Henderson will face a familiar foe in Edinboro’s Mitchell Port, the fourth seed. The pair squared off twice during the regular season, with Port claiming a pair of decision wins.
