New Derry wins ICL game

NEW DERRY — Matt Johns smacked three singles and drove in three runs to power New Derry to an 8-1 win over Apollo in an Indiana County League baseball game Thursday at New Derry Field.

Johns ripped an RBI-single to score Zack Zimmerman and give New Derry a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. The following inning, the Tigers plated four runs to stretch their lead to 8-1.

Zimmerman doubled twice for the Tigers. Dom Depalma singled, doubled and drove in two runs, and Luke Yandrick singled twice. Seth Stinson struck out five, walked three and allowed two hits to earn the win.

Ryan McGonigle and Ben Carnahan each singled twice for Apollo.

New Derry plays host to Bovard on Sunday. Apollo welcomes Bovard on Tuesday.
