Sanso's wins district title

Sanso’s topped New Bethlehem, 21-10, to win the District 7 girls fast pitch softball championship and advance to the 14-and-under state tournament.

Olivia Riley racked up four hits for Sanso’s, including a triple and a double. Morgan Buggey added three hits and scored four runs, and Abby Yancy finished with two hits.

Winning pitcher Emily Worcester struck out 12 batters.

IVP pitchers fire no-hitter

Italian Village Pizza pitchers Andy Fiechuck, Marlin Rummell, Mark Donahue, Steve Planski and Nate Stiles combined to pitch a no-hitter in Italian Village’s 12-1 victory over Anderson Heating and Air Conditioning in an Indiana Area Baseball Boosters game Thursday.

Fiechuck was the winning pitcher. Anderson’s lone run came on a walk followed by a stolen base, a throwing error and a groundout in the sixth inning.

Donahue slugged three home runs. Two came in the second inning, one of which was a grand slam. He finished with six RBIs.

Fiechuck and Planski added three hits for Italian Village.

Randy Colgan took the loss in a complete game for Anderson.

Travel softball teams set tryouts

The Indiana County Explosion travel softball teams will holding tryouts for the 2014 season on Aug. 10 and 11 at Getty Heights Field in Indiana.

Tryouts for the 10U and 12U teams will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by the 14U, 16U and 18U teams from 1 to 3 p.m.

An additional session is available on Aug. 13 from 6 to 8 pm at Play Ball Sports in Indiana.

Participants need only to attend one session. They must bring a copy of their birth certificate, registration form and a $10 registration fee.
